Celebrations at Probus Club of Nowra

At the combined Christmas and 30th Anniversary luncheon the Probus Club of Nowra membership were entertained and welcomed by musical students and a few teachers from the St John the Evangelist High School South Nowra. They performed for almost an hour, with instrumental vigour, initially, followed by some excellent vocals from two young ladies.
Following the luncheon we planned to honour this ocassion with a special presentation of 30th Anniversary Probus Appreciation Certificates and Probus Foundation member pins to Bill Rogan, Len Seyffer and Don Whelan who were the recipients as our foundation members. Unfortunately on the day Len Seyffer and Don Whelan were not physically present. Separate presentations were made later to these two gentlemen.
Our talented MC George Butt together with our singing members Bill Rogan and Judy Cameron gave us an ad-lib session of a sing-a-long, which was most appreciated by the audience. Later George Butt then accompanied by wife Pauline sang a duet.
Neville Anderson organised his son Robert to bake and ice an anniversary chocolate mud cake together with a Probus logo. Bill Rogan did the honours of cutting the cake.
Bill Rogan then informed us that the Probus Club of Nowra was founded on Monday 17th November 1986.
The seed for the foundation of the club was sown in early 1986 when Rotarian Past President Bruce Grimison first drew the attention of the Rotary Club of Nowra to the possible need of forming a second Probus Club of Nowra. This was followed by correspondence from the Probus Club of Shoalhaven suggesting to the Nowra Rotary Club that there was a need for another Probus Club as that club had by that time gained sufficient members for its own requirements. The proposed club was thus sponsored by the Rotary Club of Nowra who arranged the first inaugural meeting.
Interested members had been invited by personal contact by letter and suitable press information to attend the first meeting commencing at 9.45am on the 17th November 1986 to be held at the Nowra Bomaderry Leagues Club.
