The Probus Club of Fremantle enjoy a summer picnic
21 Feb 2017
On an overcast and unwelcoming evening on Thursday 12th January with a brisk sea breeze, Bicton Quarantine Park overlooking the Swan River was venue the Club’s annual summer picnic. Twenty hardy souls braved the cool and windy conditions where the coolness of the strong south-westerly was more than offset by the warmth of a couple of hours fellowship which is a feature of our Probus activities.
Especially pleasing was the participation of some new members who experienced Probus at its best.
With Social outings officers Eric and Megan Balzan at the helm a highlight of the evening was a Boulle competition which produced some surprisingly good performances. But the best was saved until the very last bowl when during a play-off of the heat winners, Paddy Evelegh delivered the perfect bowl to roll up to, and settle touching the jack. His expressions of unbounded joy were a delight to see. (Editor: No doubt Master Mariner Paddy is thinking, “All the practice I have in parking ships helps in Boulle. I do not think my fellow members will regard this skill as an unfair advantage.”
Thanks to Eric and Megan for yet another quality social outing.
