Taiwan will exceed your expectations

Taiwan offers even the most discerning traveller everything they could hope for.
Some might identify Taiwan as the country that mass-produced t-shirts and other apparel for the western world in the 1970s and ‘80s – most of us remember the “Made in Taiwan” tag often found on the collar of a shirt or the waistband of a pair of shorts.
Taiwan is a truly wonderful destination that has certainly come of age and can confidently offer even the most discerning traveller everything they could possibly hope for.
In 2017 the mature traveller needs many boxes ticked. Today, the destination of choice needs to be great value for money. It needs to have many and varied options in terms of experiences, culture and history. But perhaps most important these days is that it needs to be safe in all areas and at all times of the day and night.
Taiwan ticks all the boxes.
The island of Taiwan was once known as “Formosa”, which is Portuguese for ‘beautiful island’. It lies about 180 kilometres from China across the Taiwan Strait. There are direct flights several times a week from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
Taiwan lies on the Tropic of Cancer and is great for travel all year round. The main capital of Taipei is known as the ‘Manhattan of the East” due to its network of streets and avenues and plethora of yellow taxis.
Taipei never sleeps and is truly one of the world’s most vibrant cities. Getting around is so easy with an underground rail system that is the envy of many major cities. The underground system is called the MRT, or Mass Rapid Transit. You are never waiting long as at most times of the day you can see a train enter and leave the platform every two minutes. Speaking of rail, Taiwan also boasts an amazing high-speed rail system that reaches speeds of 300 kilometres per hour.
If rail is not your style, Taiwan also boasts an amazing freeway system that enables travellers to access even the most remote parts of the island. Luxury Coach Travel is readily available to explore this wonderful land.
Highlights abound in Taiwan, however Taroko Gorge is a must see. Taroko is an amazing 19 kilometre long canyon situated on the East Coast. The Taroko National Park boasts 144 species of bird, ten of which are indigenous to Taiwan. It also hosts over 30 large species of mammal including deer, boar and bear.
There are 251 species of butterfly, 32 species of reptile and 18 species of fish. Within the Taroko gorge area there are many nature walks ranging from the very easy to the more challenging.
Another must see in Taiwan is the Sun Moon Lake scenic area. Sun Moon Lake is the largest body of water in Taiwan and one of the most popular tourist attractions. There are world class hotels scattered around the lake and a visitor could easily spend several days exploring.
Back in Taipei there are too many highlights to mention, but two must-dos are Taipei 101 and the National Palace Museum. Until a few years ago, Taipei 101 was the tallest building in the world. On the observation deck you will be amazed by a 360-degree view of the vibrant city.
The National Palace Museum, ranked continually in the top five museums of the world, boasts a permanent collection of nearly 700,000 pieces of ancient Chinese imperial artifacts. The collection encompasses 8,000 years of Chinese art from the Neolithic age to the modern.
To the average person, Taiwan might still be a mystery. However, many Probians have experienced Taiwan over the past few years – but many more should! Taiwan will exceed your expectations.
