Happy 20th

It was an auspicious day when 55 members of Hobart Macquarie celebrated 20 continuous years as a Probus Club with a delightful Luncheon at the South Arm RSL & Community Club on 22nd June 2021. The club was formed on 12 June 2001.

The event was enhanced with the attendance of the remaining seven “young at heart” Foundation Members (three men and four ladies) proudly wearing their Foundation Badges.

Two Hobart Macquarie ladies baked and decorated the Anniversary Cake. This cake looked great with a white icing base, decorated with the Probus logo, along with two candles (20) and congratulatory writing. Together, the existing four “Foundation Ladies” cut the cake accompanied by all around the tables, singing “Happy Birthday to us” – very appropriate!

Table decorations were enhanced by individual special colourful Happy 20th Birthday Table Place Mats, prepared by a Club member.

Another personal touch that “marked”  the occasion was the preparation and presentation of Unique Souvenir Bookmarks by a Club member, which depicted the Probus logo with the Club Name and 20 Years of Fun, Friendship and Fellowship 2001 – 2021.

These bookmarks were “individualised” with the name of each Club Member of Hobart Macquarie as at 22 June 2021. Those members who did not attend the Luncheon didn’t miss out, as they will receive their personalised bookmarks at a later meeting.

A feature of the event, which attracted much interest and comments from all, was the showing of some 1,400-plus historic PowerPoint slides depicting Club activities, events, excursions and personnel over the years. This presentation was prepared by a Club member. It certainly invoked memories and encouraged discussion.

A formal Certificate from PSPL congratulating Hobart Macquarie on their achievement of 20 years was presented to the current Club President Vicki Turvey by Foundation Member and Past President Ken Tanner.

The photos show the Foundation Ladies about to cut the cake and Ken Tanner presenting the PSPL Certificate.
