Climb every mountain
28 Jun 2016
Here’s a flashback to when the Rose City Warwick Probus Club set off for Tamborine Mountains, to enjoy the Springtime in the Mountains Open Garden Festival in September last year.
Though the weather on departure looked ominous and cool, the day quickly improved and we covered the distance in good time, arriving at the Tamborine Mountains Showgrounds for morning tea.
The ladies of the Country Women’s Association demonstrated great country hospitality, serving the group a very welcome Devonshire morning tea. Nurseries at the Showgrounds provided a feast of plants for sale, tempting us all to make purchases. The display of clivias, ferns, hippeastrums, violets, orchids, azaleas, ferns and other plants was simply staggering! We visited two Open Gardens prior to returning to the Showgrounds for lunch. The gardens varied in size from a rambling property of more than an acre with magnificent views to the south coast, to a more confined cottage style garden.
Both showed a profusion of the plants already mentioned, much to the delight of the admiring group. Although there were very heavy showers over lunch, we were kept high and dry under cover, at our pre-arranged location. We visited two more cottage style gardens after lunch with more shopping for plants of our choice. We are indebted to our travel coordinator for all her work in planning the trip, as well as to the coach driver, who skilfully navigated the narrow, winding roads leading to Tamborine Mountains. A most interesting and rewarding trip.
