BEER TASTING OUTING

On Tuesday 20 October, 20 members visited the Northbridge Brewing Company for a beer tasting and lunch on their sky deck overlooking Northbridge. Unfortunately, several members who originally booked were unable to attend, but Outing Officers Megan and Eric rounded up some friends to make up the numbers. It was a beautiful day for the event on the top floor, in the open air but under shade cloth.

Master Brewer, Ken Arrowsmith discussed and explained to us the four beers we tasted. Ken worked at the Swan Brewery and you might recall he was the person with the beard pictured on Emu Bitter cans. After the Swan Brewery was taken over he retired for a short time before being employed at this boutique brewery.

The four beers we tasted were;

l Classic Bavarian Style Wheat beer, which proved the most popular with everyone there.

2 An all malt continental Larger with a blend of hops which provided a crisp larger bitterness.

3. A bright Australian style Pale Ale dossed with hops.

4. A traditional deep red/brown Mild English Ale with a lower alcohol content.

After our tasting we were provided with a wonderful assortment of delicious finger food which included prawn cocktail, beef sliders, steak & ale pies, lamb cutlets and many other goodies.

Everyone present commented on the quality and the quantity of food which was served. The majority did not leave till after 3.00pm and slowly made out way back to the Perth Train Station.
