Retiring with a laugh

Probus Club of The EntranceThe Entrance's much-loved Special Guest Speaker Coordinator has retired, having provided many intriguing speakers and great laughs over his 16 years in the position.

Barry Fletcher had been Special Guest Speaker Coordinator for the Probus Club of The Entrance for 16 years and retired, much to the disappointment of members. Barry had always provided a few jokes each meeting which gets everyone relaxed with a good laugh. The ones he received from his friend in Canada are regarded by many as his best.

Two of Barry's final meetings before his retirement from the Committee position were the club's AGM and its special luncheon at the end of 2012, well organised by club Social Convenor Ralph Franks, with 104 members attending.

At the AGM, Barry had been able to obtain a fascinating guest speaker. A lovely lady, Eva Kershaw spoke to members about her escape from the Hungarian Revolution in the late 1950s. Although this was such a sad and very hard time, it was amazing to hear about how the human spirit and determination survives.
