‘SABAH’ BORNEO

Picture yourself in a tropical haven where the attractions are as varied as they are pristine…

Sabah is one of the thirteen states in Malaysia and occupies the top portion of the third largest island in the world, Borneo. There’s so much to see and do in Sabah. The destination is uniquely accessible to all age travellers.

Here are a few of the spectacular highlights on this tour:

-       NORTH BORNEO RAILWAY STEAM TRAIN EXPERIENCE: The British Vulcan Steam Engine Train, fuelled by wood, runs gently from Tanjung Aru through the towns of Kinarut and Papar and returns on the same route. Experience the romance of rediscovering the Colonial Train Ride on the North Borneo Railway with a Colonial Style “Tiffin” luncheon served on board.

-       KLIAS RIVER WILDLIFE CRUISE: Observe the unique lifestyle of the riverine wildlife in the trees located along the river banks - see the colonies of proboscis monkeys, elusive silver hair monkeys called ‘Langgur’, long tailed macaques, buffaloes, iguanas, kingfisher birds and more along the lush riverine vegetation.

-       KUNDASANG WAR MEMORIAL & GARDENS: Established in 1962, this was one of the first memorials to commemorate the brave Australian and British Prisoners of War who died while in the Sandakan POW Camp and during the infamous “Death Marches” from Sandakan to Ranau during World War II.

-       SANDAKAN AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL: The memorial park is situated on the site of the Sandakan Prisoner of War Camp. A commemorative pavilion holds material and includes a scale model of the original POW camp. An obelisk of black granite commemorating those who died is also located within the park.

-       SEPILOK ORANG UTAN REHABILITATION CENTRE: The Centre helps once captive, injured or abandoned Orang Utans learn to climb and fend for themselves in the wild, with the hope that one day, they may return to the forest.
