More than 27 homes have been destroyed after a massive fire in the Perth Hills and a man has been killed while preparing for a separate blaze. The Parkerville file has burned more than 650 hectares, aided by strong winds and high temperatures. Conditions have eased overnight allowing fire crews to contain the fire. Read more.

Lives to be saved by Daniel Christie

Daniel Christie, the victim of alcohol-fuelled violence, will donate his organs to as many as 10 people, giving them a second chance at life. Daniel was struck by a single punch on New Year’s Eve while celebrating in Kings Cross. Prosecutors are now deciding whether to charge the perpetrator with manslaughter or murder. Temperatures expected to soar across Australia

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of extreme conditions throughout Australia this week after Perth was subjected to its hottest night and morning on record. Adelaide is set to soar to temperatures between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius, Melbourne is expected to hit 39-41 degrees Celsius while Canberra and Sydney will both be subjected to temperatures of 37-39. Pope Francis names new cardinals

UK forces accused of war crimes

UK forces have been accused of war crimes in Iraq. A British newspaper published a dossier accusing the armed forces of the crimes. The 250-page dossier will be submitted to the International Criminal Court, and includes allegations of hooding prisoners, burning, electric shocks and threats of rape and execution.
