Travels for Karrinyup Ladies
05 Dec 2012
Members of the Karrinyup Ladies Probus Club have had two very interesting outings this year, both within easy travelling distance of the metropolitan area.
Whiteman Park is where everyone takes their children and grandchildren to visit, but that visit for for them, the grandparents. The park was green and lovely, and the group was made extremely welcome by a team of enthusiastic volunteers who provided morning tea at the Heritage Museum and an informative talk about the origin of the park and about Mr Whiteman.
The group was then taken around the park in a reconditioned (very old) MTT Bus, the likes of which they all remembered travelling in. The driver was one of the people who helped to restore the bus and to maintain it. It was then onto a guided tour of the Heritage Museum, a fascinating and beautifully presented showpiece.
Next was lunch in the Café, a roast meal greatly enjoyed by all, followed by some time to explore the Transport and Motor Museum. This was indeed a trip down memory lane.
The other outing that comes highly recommend is the Kalamunda History Village. Once again members were welcomed by very enthusiastic volunteers who brought back the old days as they guided the group through a school, shops, cottage with facilities such as a hand wringer and Reckitts blue bags, a steam train and station, fruit processing shed, Post Office and various working sheds. After all this memorabilia a beautiful lunch was enjoyed at the Kalamunda Hotel.
Both tours were organised by Jim and Leila Buckingham of Joondalup Coach Lines, they did a marvellous job
