Probus in the 90s

In the 90s, John Howard was Prime Minister, the Internet was in its infancy and the country was in recession. But Probians everywhere were living it up. Here, we pay tribute to them.

BURNIE, TAS

 

Marie, Aileen, Barbara, Alwyn, Beryl and Joan were all part of Burnie Ladies Probus Club’s inaugural committee in 1991.

Located on the lovely north west coast of Tasmania, the club is one of three in the area and is made up of 65 enthusiastic members.

CANBERRA CITY, ACT

Here is the first committee of the Canberra City Ladies Probus Club in 1990. These include Dot Shane (Treasurer), Trish Jones (Membership), Mary Sant (Secretary) and Evelyn Muir (President).

Trish and Mary are still active members of the club to this day.

NEWCASTLE, NSW

The wonderful members of the Ladies Probus Club of Newcastle celebrated their grand 10-year anniversary in May, 1996.

BOX HILL, VIC

Probians all over Australia love travelling together. In 1993, the Box Hill South Ladies’ Probus Club went on a fantastic tour to Darwin. Here are Kit Robertson and Margaret Pruden riding on camels in sunny Alice Springs.

The Probus Club of Sutherland began as a men-only club, but in 2007, it was voted that ladies should also join. This shot of the former presidents of the club was taken in 1996. »
