Australia is facing wild weather again with storms that thrashed NSW over the weekend expected to hit QLD today. Plus, news from the 85th Academy Awards.
Wild weather across the nation
A major storm that hit NSW over the weekend has caused extensive damage throughout Sydney. The storm triggered mini tornadoes, scattering debris including trees and trampolines, and damaging thousands of homes. Sydney Morning Herald has the incredible pictures.
Meanwhile, residents of south east Queensland are bracing for more extreme weather with up to 200mm of torrential rain forecast for the next 24 hours. Courier Mail has all the details.
On the west coast, Western Australian residents are being told to prepare for Cyclone Rusty. A blue alert is in place. Read more.

First female speaker dies
Australia’s first female speaker of the House of Representatives Joan Child has died aged 91. Child was one of the nation’s pioneering female political leaders after winning the east Melbourne seat of Henty in 1974. Read more.

Aussies are hoping for a miracle as the 85th Academy Awards kick off in just a matter of hours.
