Investigations continue into a double murder that orphaned a 12-year-old girl on the Sunshine Coast. Officers were called to the Coolum Beach home on Wednesday night. When a man wielding a knife confronted them. One officer opened fire. The man later died in hospital. Read more.

UN wants to inspect Syria site

The United Nations has requested access to the site of a suspected chemical weapons attack outside the capital of Syria, Damascus. UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon has asked for immediate access, “without delay”. ABC News has more.

New evidence in baseballer’s murder

The use of social media by the three teenagers suspected of murdering Australian baseballer Christopher Lane is assisting the Oklahoma police force in their investigation. A video has been found of James Edwards, 15, brandishing a shotgun and wads of cash. Edwards was also the teenager who wrote on Facebook just after allegedly killing Lane, “Bang. 2 drops in 2 hours”.
