Aurora shooter pleading not guilty
James Holmes, accused of shooting dead 12 people and injuring 70 others at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado in 2012, has asked a judge to enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. The plea had not been entered earlier as Holmes was waiting for a mental evaluation. Read more.
Waterhouse-Singleton update
John Singleton has been fined $15,000 while trainer Gai Waterhouse is fighting charges against her for their roles in the More Joyous affair. Waterhouse pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against her under Australian Racing Rules while Singleton pleaded guilty. ABC News has the details.
Morcombe trial delayed
A lack of experienced prosecutors in the Queensland Government has delayed the trial of Daniel Morcombe's accused killer. The wait has infuriated both Daniel’s family and accused killer Brett Cowan who will now have to wait until next year. Ninemsn.com.au has more.
Ten escape house fire
A fire has gutted a home in Brisbane overnight before badly damaging a neighbouring home. Ten people escaped unharmed. The residents discovered the blaze when the power went out. ABC News has more.
OJ Simpson appeals conviction
OJ Simpson is appealing his 2008 conviction for robbery and assault. His legal team claimed Simpson was misrepresented by his previous lawyers. Simpson was convicted after trying to retrieve memorabilia that allegedly belonged to him. Seven News has the full story.
Walters retires
US veteran anchor Barbara Walters has announced she’ll retire from journalism next year. The announcement was made on The View, the television show she created and anchors. Walters will continue to produce The View. Read more and watch her announcement in the video below.
