Panania Combined Probus Club Inc.

Introduction

Probus originated as an association of semi-retired men.

The word comes from the words PROfessional and BUSiness groups.

The basic purpose of a  Probus Club is to provide regular gatherings for those who, in retirement, appreciate and value opportunities to meet others in similar circumstances and of a similar level of interest.

A Public interest meeting to form "The Probus Club Of Panania" was held at Revesby Workers Club on 10th Febuary 1997 at 10am.

Motion was passed: "That a Probus Club, possibly called the Panania Probus Club be formed and that a foundation meeting be held at 10.00am on the 10th March 1997 at the Revesby Workers Club.

Management meeting was held on 10th March 1997 with some 200 prospective members present.

Jack Wheatley moved: "That a provisional club to be called Panania Probus Club be formed". On a show of hands , more than 150 people agreed with the motion and agreed to join by paying the joining fee. After morning tea, Jack Wheatley announced that over 190 people had joined and that this would be too many for one club and moved that a second club, to be called Revesby Probus Club be formed.

It was decided that "Panania Probus Club" would meet on the second Monday of each month.

Club commenced 14th April 1997 as Panania Probus Club. The club was incorporated in May 1998 to be known as Panania Probus Club Inc.

The monthly fee was $1.00 : Membership finalised @116.

At January 1998 meeting a motion was moved :- Annual Probus & monthly meeting fees be combined into one annual fee payable at the beginning of each Probus year.
