A Brief History of the Ngunnawal Combined Probus Club
The Ngunnawal Combined Probus Club was formed on 24th February 2003 at a meeting at the Ngunnawal Community Centre attended by 14 interested people.
Members of the Gold Creek and Gungahlin Probus Clubs had approached Ginninderra Rotary Club to start another club in the growing area of Gungahlin.
Notable luminaries to speak at that meeting were Chris Norwood, Chairman of the Rotary District 9710 and John Hawke, President of the Probus Association of Canberra and District. Presidents of Gold Creek Probus Club and Gungahlin Probus Club also spoke and welcomed us to the Probus family.
The new club was initially called Ngunnawal Probus and Matilda House, elder of the local Ngunnawal tribe attended our second meeting to give a talk on the history her people.
Jim O’Sullivan was elected as our first President and by 24th March 2003 we had 31 members including 7 new inductees.
At the end of our first year member numbers had increased to 50 and we relocated to the Raiders Club to accommodate the increased numbers.
July 2004 saw our club become an incorporated body and the name changed to Ngunnawal Combined Probus Club
In August 2005 we then moved to our current location at the Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club.
