General Meeting of the Mawson Lakes Probus Club on 12th April 2024 at the Mawson Centre.
Meeting opened at 10.00am
Present 20 members, 9 apologies, 2 absent, 2 visitors and 2 new members joined.
Minutes of the February meeting was presented. The minutes were proposed by Sandie Mcfeeeters and seconded by Brian Kynaston, there was no business arising and all members agreed. Carried.
The President reminded all members that the fees are due before April 30th.
Secretary’s report: Account for venue hire and a small packet for Gail from BankSA
Treasurer’s report: No report due to illness.
Membership: Gail was absent and two new members joined today.
Outings officer: Faye announced some changes in outings. April is now lunch at the Watershed and for May she is trying to get a visit to Adelaide Town Hall.
Welfare officer: Allan advised regarding Ian’s return home and news about Bob and Jean Wigley
Our speaker today was Helmine Kemp, a published author who told us about her change in career after retirement. Helmine held a degree in science but had always made little notes and ideas which she discovered after retiring. She undertook some courses in writing and started to find many stories she felt she could expand. She is self-published and showed two books already in print. Her story was very interesting and the journey she took was quite involved. She needed a publisher, a design for her covers and also an editor. Her books contain a lot of detail and she is mindful of getting her facts correct. It was a lovely glimpse into the world of book publishing.
A small raffle was held.
