MACQUARIE PROBUS CLUB INC MEETING NO 325 18th April 2024

The meeting was opened by President, Peter Cooke-Russell at 10.04, with a welcome to 45 members. Six new members had joined before the meeting started. There were 17 apologies.
Minutes of the March meeting were moved for acceptance by Dianne Parker and seconded by Howard Smith. Carried
President’s Report
President reported that positions for committee had been decided at the Committee meeting held last week. The position of Cameo seeker is vacant and if a member would like to take up this position, you would be welcomed to the committee.
Ray Hilton died last week and his funeral will be held next Monday. Both Penny and Ray have been with our club for over twenty years. Ray served as our Risk Management Officer for atleast the past 12 years. A minute silence was held for Ray.
Two new members were invested and welcomed into our Club – Tony Vickers and Mary Hodgkinson
Birthday winner for April was Rex Goode..

Friendship
Dianne was in touch with Bob and Jeanette Alexander. Bob much better and in fact is at the meeting today.
Ray Hilton’s funeral is on Monday.
Peter Cooper died recently.
Trips and Outings – Jenny Burns
1 CRCS have a trip to Jugiong on the 26th April
2 Billy Elliot tickets went quickly and now distributed.
3 Tuesday April 23rd Car Trip to Captain’s Flat. Meet at Sutton Bakery for morning tea then travel to
Captain’s Flat for picnic lunch and walk around town.
4. A trip to the Arboretum is being organised, date to be advised
5. Show of hand as to who is interested in going to see Chicago at the Canberra theatre.

Cameo Janet Medley
Janet gave a brief overview of her life starting in Mt McDonald about 20k from Cowra to her present day life here in Canberra. Janet went to Europe in the 70s and worked in Germany. In Canberra she worked at the Old Canberra Hospital and had 23 years with the Department of Agriculture.
Guest Speaker Dr Mark Lax, Air Commodore, Retired.
Dr Lax explained how an Air Force chap becomes a Navy chap. He was asked to be a Guest Speaker on a cruise ship and his topic was “Maritime History Across the Pacific”
He then went on to tell us the real story about Bligh’s life and his several mutinies.
Peter Cooke-Russell thanked Dr Lax for his interesting talk and presented him with a gift.
The lucky door prize was won by Lorraine Buckland.
The meeting closed at 11.52am
