Kallaroo Probus Club Name Change - October 2020
Kallaroo Probus Club Inc. was previously known as the Probus Club of Sorrento. The club was founded in 1998 and used to meet in the Sorrento Area. However, for many years it had been meeting in Kallaroo and the name change to Kallaroo Probus Club became official in October 2020.
The name change now better reflects where we meet. We enjoy our meetings in the comfortable Club Lounge of St Ives Northshore, 177 Dampier Avenue, Kallaroo. Our members, a diverse and sociable "mob", come from Kallaroo and surrounding suburbs from East Perth to Alkimos and Wanneroo.
A meeting was held in January 1998 to form a new Probus Club which was addressed by Hilda Joyce from the Glengarry Probus Club. About 10 people attended this first meeting and all became committee members. Hilda Joyce joined our club in 2003.
The inaugural meeting was held in May 1998 in a room at the Whitfords Tavern and thus the Probus Club of Sorrento was born.
Maureen Stubbs and Heather Graham, both past Presidents were founding members and are still very active on the committee and other activities of the club.
The banner for the Probus Club of Sorrento which is displayed at our meetings was made by Joy Bosworth. The club moved to St Ives in 2002 and this is commemorated by a plaque on the outside passage way as you enter the Lounge Room.
