Twenty Club members enjoy a visit to Adelaide

Twenty of our Club members greatly enjoyed a five-day visit to Adelaide recently. Among the sights and activities was a visit to the Haigh Chocolate factory and shop-where many purchases were made (and enjoyed) on the spot! I can’t vouch for how many of the purchases ever made it back to Melbourne!

The major attraction of the trip of course, was the three-day cruise along the Murray River on “Proud Mary”. We had a most interesting talk by an ecologist, explaining the history of the River, and its importance to Adelaide and Australia.

Our accommodation on the boat –and the meals served there-were faultless! How that small kitchen produced such wonderful (and plentiful) meals will always remain a mystery to me! All of this eating was capped off on the final night of the cruise with an outdoor barbecue on the riverbank, complete with a country music entertainer who seemed to know the words to any song thrown at him!

Once off the boat, the final two days of the trip were spent at the Adelaide Hilton right in the centre of town. Our Tour Bus driver gave us an in-depth explanation of the developers’ plans for the layout of the city, with their focus on its many “green” areas. It really is very beautiful.

The finale of the trip was a day in the Barossa Valley. This encompassed beautiful scenery, sightings of kangaroos, at Maggie Beer’s farm shop, and another bountiful lunch. Again, most enjoyable.  Naturally, on ANY group trip, the most important component is the GROUP!  Ours was a perfect mix!! The camaraderie and helpfulness to one another was great.

If everyone on this trip had as good a time as did I, it was a total success!!!
