First prize

The Probus Club of The Copper Coast was again awarded first prize for its float in the Kernewek Lowender Cornish Festival street procession at Moonta.

The float has been used by the club for the Christmas and Cornish festivals since Christmas 2005. The concept of the float was the idea of Myrna Blieschke and was designed by Dieter Lunsmann and Trevor Gibbons, and constructed using club tradesmen over many weeks.

This year, Dieter Lunsmann constructed an outback dunny trailer, complete with a redback spider, made by Trevor Gibbons. Merna’s theme this year was a Cornish miners cottage backyard, participating members were dressed in Cornish miner period costumes, the float was surrounded by a stick fence and had a washing line adorned in period underwear washing, followed by Dieter Lunsmann with a single furrow hand plough and Ray Blieschke with a wooden wheeled sack truck.
