Mystery solved
11 Feb 2013
On the morning of 15 November 48 intrepid members of the Lake Mulwala Combined Probus Club left Yarrawonga for an unknown destination. The annual mystery trip was underway.
The group travelled via Wangaratta and Milawa, and stopped at Whourally where morning tea was enjoyed. The Crusty Loaf of Yarrawonga provided a wonderful array of cakes and slices.
Following the tea break Probus members travelled on to Myrtleford where a local guide joined the bus for a tour of the town, which ended at The Old Schoolhouse Museum. What memories the vast range of exhibits brought back.
Still not knowing where they were heading the group got back on the bus and after a short drive arrived at the property on the outskirts of Myrtleford. Dom and Rosa D’ Fazio and their family greeted the group who had no idea what a fabulous afternoon was in store.
Following a welcome from Rosa everyone was treated to cheese and homemade salami, then a choice of fresh homemade lasagne, spaghetti or gnocchi, or a little of each. After a reasonable break, the main course of chicken and veal dishes with various vegetables was presented, beautiful home style Italian cooking at its best.
The afternoon of great fellowship with lots of talk and laughter was punctuated by phrases such as, “I shouldn’t have had seconds”, and “I don’t think I could eat any more”, that was until the desserts were sighted – homemade tiramisu, apple crumble, with lashings of cream and ice-cream.
The magical experience lasted just on three hours, and as the group rolled out the door and onto the bus there was a buzz of contentment and appreciation for the hospitality, which was so gracefully and generously given.
The group travelled to the outskirts of Myrtleford on the Great Alpine Road, where The Australian Pumpkin Seed Factory and Outlet is located, and was given a talk on the benefits of pumpkin seed and its oil. Many samples were tasted.
Back on the bus again and heading for home, strangely no one wanted to stop for afternoon tea.
A big thank you to our activities team, Bruce, John, & Jenny, for a first class effort.
