Gillard to discuss asylum seekers in Indonesia

Prime Minister Julia Gillard will travel to Indonesia next month to discuss the ongoing asylum seeker issue. The announcement follows a challenge by the Coalition to go to Indonesia to tackle the matter, however the PM’s office says the trip has been planned for some time. It also follows speculation that Kevin Rudd will take over the leadership prior to the September election. Read more.

Bayley under protection in jail

Adrian Bayley, the man who raped and murdered Jill Meagher, will be under the highest level of protection in jail. Sources say his notoriety puts him at the same level of risk as a paedophile or corrupt police officer, saying other prisoners will most likely badly hurt or kill him. News.com.au has more.

Qantas crew suing Rolls Royce

A Qantas flight crew has filed a class-action lawsuit against Rolls Royce in response to a mid-air explosion in 2010. The 17-member crew from NSW claim to have suffered psychological injury as a result of the engine failure on QF32. The pilots and crew managed to keep passengers on board in a relatively calm state while the plane was flown back to Singapore airport, with only one engine. Read more.

Burglar finds dead body

An intruder stumbled on a dead body hanging in the house he was attempting to burgle, calling the police to alert them of his find and reporting his own crime in the process. The New Zealand Herald has the full story.

Royal baby to arrive in flurry of tradition

The Duchess of Cambridge will have a traditional royal birth, at the same hospital where her husband and brother-in-law were born. The announcement comes following speculation that the royal couple were going to break with tradition. There will also be a traditional announcement with the couple snubbing social media for a notice board outside Buckingham Palace. Seven News has more.

Dolce and Gabbana sentenced to jail

Fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been sentenced to one year and eight months in jail. The pair has been charged with tax evasion of 200 million euros. The pair has also been ordered to pay a fine of 500,000 euros. ABC News has the full story.

Brazil will deploy elite security forces to five major cities in an attempt to quell violent clashes between police and anti-World Cup protesters.
