Exotic Mauritius Trip

A group of 25 Probarians made the unknown journey to Mauritius, for an exciting international adventure.   

The trip was organised by Dianne, Activities Co-Ordinator, Rose City Probus, Benalla in conjunction with Trade Travel, Group Travel Specialists.  The group of travellers consisted of 12 Rose City Probus, Benalla members; 8 Lakeside Probus members; 2 Rye Probus members, 1 Sandown Probus member; and 2 NSW Probarians.  Throughout the journey, the Probarians enjoyed friendship, fun and fellowship. 

The highlights of the trip included the following –

The truly “hot spot” destination -  exotic Mauritius which afforded beautiful white, sandy beaches; coral reefs  for snorkelling and diving; sailing on a catamaran; picturesque mountains; gorges and waterfalls; coloured earths; pink pigeons;  the highlights of the Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens; fascinating museums;  Casela World of Adventures Lion Kingdom -  Walking with the Lions Program; history of the now extinct Dodo; and a wonderful school visit – “ Joie De Vivre” , educating the underprivileged youth in South Mauritius. 

Members visited the Sugar Museum, the Biscuit factory; the Vanilla farm, the Rum distillery, the flower plantation and of course,  shopped at various villages.  Some of them pampered themselves with massages and more at the Spa Centre at the LUX Tamassa Resort where they stayed for the duration of the trip. 

Members had a fabulous trip, being fully immersed in many cultural aspects of the country such as the languages of Creole, French – the formal language, and English.   They were privileged to enjoy the entertainment such as music, dancing – the Sega; and the amazing food!  They learnt much about the religions of the country; the social aspects, where the families supported each other and lived together as “extended families”. The Mauritian people were a real delight, always smiling, ready to assist, warm, friendly and positive about life. 

A special thank you is extended to Trade Travel for organising a well balanced, exciting itinerary for our Probarians. It was a great experience for all!
