Steventon members at the home of Hans Heysen
15 Nov 2013
Twenty two members of the Probus Club of Steventon spent an enjoyable morning viewing the studio, home and gardens of Sir Hans Heysen OBE, the famous Australian artist.
The Heysen’s named their property The Cedars which is located near Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills.
The group inspected Hans Heysen’s studio which he personally designed and had built in 1912. Many of his original drawings and paintings were on display. A large number of them were of the majestic gum trees that surrounded his home.
The tour of the home of Sally his wife, and Hans was of great interest. The home is well maintained and features artwork by Hans and their daughter Nora, a gifted artist in her own right.
Finally, members went to see a Ford Model A car and Hans Heysen’s original caravan which he used to travel to the Flinders Ranges while on his painting expeditions.
This great artist born in Hamburg in 1877, passed away in 1968 but his family keeps his work alive.
All members agreed that this had been an inspirational visit which is highly recommended to any other club.
A great day concluded with a delicious buffet lunch at the Old Mill Motel in Hahndorf.
