On 24 June 2020 the Paeroa Probus Club, Hauraki District, Waikato, New Zealand had their first post lockdown meeting and celebrated not just returning to level one normal but also their first birthday as a Club with their delayed AGM.
The Club was formed on 23 March 2019 with 68 members, since then some have moved out of district or passed away, and some more members have joined so now the membership is 74 and growing.
The Club meets every 4th Wednesday of the month in the local Paeroa Gospel Chapel which is very central.
After the club business is dealt with it is followed by speakers then morning tea with a mix and mingle before either heading home again, or heading to the local L & P café/restaurant for lunch and more chat. The L & P café (Lemon and Paeroa) is a local landmark and is part of the attractions of Paeroa where the original soft drink Lemon and Paeroa, “Famous in New Zealand” was made from local mineral spring water.
Paeroa has a population of approximately 6000 people and is also famous for its antique shops, situated on the intersection of state highways 2 and 26, located at the base of the Coromandel Peninsula.
At the AGM, the Badge of Office was handed over from Inaugural President Noel Coventry (now IPP) to incoming President Lorraine Wilson. Then Lorraine welcomed the new Vice President Phillip Montgomery to the Committee.
The new and past Presidents cut the celebratory birthday cake that had been made by Secretary Susan and morning tea was enjoyed by all.
Following the close of the meeting the usual invitation to meet for lunch was extended and 20+ members enjoyed further socialising and good food at the L & P Café.
