A fun day out can often be expensive – all the little things like food, drinks and activities add up. But enjoying a day with the family or the grandkids doesn’t always have to break the bank. Here are our top six activities to do and they're absolutely free!
Choosing what to do on a day out can often depend entirely on the weather. If it’s hot and sunny or raining cats and dogs, there are plenty of ways to enjoy your free time.
Relax at the beach
If you fancy enjoying the sunshine with the family then this is the perfect day out. Relax underneath the shade of a beach umbrella with a good book or cool off by taking a dip in the sea. There is plenty for the grandkids to do, from building sandcastles to exploring the hidden secrets of coastal rock pools. It is a great day out for the whole family. Visit a museum or art gallery
This activity can be enjoyed rain, hail or shine. Most art galleries and museums offer free entry. There are loads of things to see and do once you are inside and it can be great fun for the younger generations too – museums often have dedicated fun learning areas where the kids can enjoy a hands-on experience, you might learn a thing or two yourself! If museums aren’t your thing, take a moment to ponder over interesting artworks at your local gallery. Visit your local library
Not only can you take some time to read some great novels, most libraries also have CDs and DVDs available for hire free of charge. If you have the grandkids in tow, many libraries have a dedicated story time for young children where they can sit and enjoy the delights as their favourite stories come to life. Play board games
Board games are such a great way to spend rainy day indoors. With so many to choose from it is guaranteed to be fun for everyone!
