Celebrating Canberra's centenary

Gold Creek Probus Club is located in the Gungahlin region of the ACT.

At the November meeting, the club held a combined celebration for the club’s 16th anniversary and Canberra’s Centenary. Members also observed Remembrance Day at 11.00am.

Everyone dressed in 1913 era clothes, setting the scene for some excellent entertainment put on by members. This included a one act play, a choir and soloist performances, all with a backdrop of period photographs of Canberra in 1913.

The play, titled A Bush Christening, was a spoof of the formal unveiling of the Foundation Stone in Canberra in 1913 and the naming of Canberra as ‘the Bush Capital’.

It was written and produced by members Mark and Mary Smith, with a cast of 12, plus music and audio-visual support team.

83 members and guests thoroughly enjoyed the show and joined in singing along to some great old songs. Celebrations continued with a luncheon after the show.
