His Excellency Hieu Van Le, the Governor of South Australia, visited Berri Combined Probus Club on Saturday 29 May.

He entertained members with his story of how he and his wife fled the war in South Vietnam, in a series of leaky boats, to arrive several months later at Darwin Harbour to be greeted by two Aussies on a fishing trip in their tinny, complete with sun cream and stubbies, shouting, “Welcome to Australia!”

Amazing how someone could go through the hardship they encountered to rise to the lofty position of Governor of our State, and how lucky we all are to live in a country where this is possible.
