30th anniversary

To celebrate Cairns West Ladies’ Probus Club’s 30th Anniversary, 22 people attended a High Tea at the Cairns Pullman International Hotel.

Past and present members attended ready to enjoy catching up with friends and reminiscing about years gone by. In the absence of President Lorraine Watts who was recovering from shoulder surgery, Immediate Past President Mary Cook stepped into the role of MC. She did an excellent job, ensuring everybody was enjoying themselves.

Under the auspices of Cairns West Rotary, Cairns West Ladies’ Probus Club was founded on 4 October 1990. The women who attended, 65 in all, were inducted as Foundation Members. The first meeting was held at the YAL club but meeting places changed over the following years. Today the Club meets on the first Thursday of the month at the Emmanuel Uniting Church hall in West Cairns

Every celebration must have a cake and a local bakery provided a wonderful one iced in Probus colours and with the logo prominently displayed. Two members who have been involved with Probus for many years, Eileen O’Brien and Dorothy Woodhouse, had the honour of cutting the cake.

Prior to starting the High Tea, it was decided to have a group photo taken.  This provided a lot of hilarity with everybody bossing everyone around as to where they should stand.  It was a case of “got to get everyone in the picture – oops someone is missing”. Photographer, Annicea, finally took some great photos throughout the afternoon.

In the absence of the President, MC Mary presented the 30 Year Certificates from PAQ and PSPL to the club which were accepted by Secretary Nola Jappe on behalf of the president and members. These will be proudly displayed at meetings.

President Lorraine donated the most enormous bouquet of flowers for Lucky Door prize. This was won by member Robyn Pratt.

It was a wonderful afternoon with thanks to the team organising the High Tea and to everyone who attended. Without your support it would not have been such a success. Fun, Friendship and Fellowship was the order of the day.
