Great food for a great cause

NSW Parliament collaborates with OzHarvest during COVID-19 to prepare home-style meals for some of the State’s most vulnerable people.

During this unprecedented and challenging time, the Parliamentary Catering Services at NSW Parliament launched a community initiative with longstanding partners OzHarvest to prepare home-style meals for some of the state’s most vulnerable people.

The very talented culinary team at NSW Parliament embraced the opportunity to support the community by providing up to 1,000 meals a day. These meals were delivered by OzHarvest to various charity groups across the state.

Executive chef Vanessa Harcourt described this as “comfort food, good for the soul,” adding that the aim of the service was to boost people’s physical and mental wellbeing. “Many of these meals are also for children so we wanted to make them as family-friendly and healthy as possible.”

“This is great food for a great cause and it demonstrates that we are all in this together,” said Alan Daw from NSW Parliament. “OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, collecting food from commercial outlets and delivering directly to more than 1,300 charities supporting people in need across the country,” Alan added.
