Hawthorndene celebrates 30th birthday

Members of the Hawthorndene Men’s Probus Club in South Australia enjoyed a celebratory lunch at the Flagstaff Hill Gold Club.

Members, partners and invited guests were in attendance including Iain Evans MP, Mitcham Council Mayor, Michael Picton, Probus South Pacific SA Representative Des Foster and Blackwood Rotary President, Barbara Chappell.

The Club, founded in 1984 by the Blackwood Rotary Club, was the second Probus Club in the district. The Club’s Foundation President was Tom Wightman and together with the Founding Committee he created a popular club, which has a reputation for being welcoming, friendly and caring.

A sub-committee has produced a 30-year historical record of the club, highlighting events, stories and pranks of some of the past members. This publication also documents the many activities and outings enjoyed by the members over the years. This historical record has been produced with the assistance of a grant from the Mitcham Council, which has enabled the club to print a quality document for distribution to members and community organisations.

The club meets at the Belair Uniting Church Hall on Sheoak Road at 9.30am on the second Thursday of each month (December excepted) for fellowship and friendship. Visitors are always welcome to attend and hear the guest speakers or take part in outings. Club members look forward to many more years of comradeship and fun.
