Currimundi goes to the desert
04 Oct 2013
Author Annette Henderson swept Currimundi members away with her tales of crossing the Sahara in a VW Kombi.
Once again the Currimundi Combined Probus Club monthly meeting was expertly informed and entertained by guest speaker Annette Henderson.
Annette, with husband Win, crossed the Sahara desert in a VW Kombi wagon back in 1975 and has written a book about their experiences called Scorched – Pushing the Boundaries.
The couple set off on the most punishing drive on earth with no GPS, seatbelts or mobile phone after a year preparing in London, in response to an inner drive to see where their limits lay. And pushed to their limits they were!
With sand storms, desert nomads, camels and the desert thorn tree their only companions between oases they punished themselves and pushed their vehicle (which broke down intermittently) to its limits as well.
Members listened in awe and silence as Annette spoke capably and knowledgeably, and showed her amazing picture presentation.
