Como Combined Probus Club Member celebrates 100th Birthday
17 Jun 2015
When it comes to bragging rights not many people can brag about the fact they have reached 100.
Long time member Rose Juan turned 100 on March 20th 2015.
Rose has been a member our Probus Club since 1987 (28 years) and has served on just about every committee and officer position while a member.
We had a big celebration at our general meeting on March 16th with a special presentation of roses and a Happy Birthday Cake.
Actually we arranged to have two cakes, one that was cut up for morning tea and the other one was a specially decorated cake which Rose and her family were able to take home.
As a surprise the committee arranged for members of Rose’s family to be present at the celebration.
Members go to the University
Led by our erstwhile Past President Olive Hansen, 34 members travelled to Fremantle to be part of the conducted tour of the Notre Dame campuswhich is built into the old warehouses of Fremantle Port.
The University and their architects have worked wonders by redesigning modern interiors and workspaces whilst retaining the historical building facades together with the cultural past.
The Port of Fremantle was a very busy for many years, howeve, the advent of the container style of shipping goods spelt the deathnell for the warehouses.
They lay abandoned for many years, before the university saw the potential of building a place of learning.
Our party was given an extensive and interesting tour of the buildings and the grounds by our guide.
After taking in all the interesting aspects of the university we had a short stroll up the road to the Esplanade hotel where our outings officer Robin Main had arranged a buffet lunch.
Everything was beautifly arranged for the huungry horde and I for one had 5 serves.
This topped off a day of learning, fun, fellowship and friendship.
Thanks for a great day to Olive Hansen and Robin Main........................Copy by Max Hansen
