ANZAC DAY 2015
29 Jul 2015
In April two of our members – Elva and Peter Brown attended the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign.
Their account follows:
We arrived at Gallipoli the day before the Anzac ceremony and despite strict security we were able to have a look around this rugged landscape before arriving at the Dawn Service site. We had been advised to take thermal clothing and blankets as it would be very cold being outdoors all night. Fortunately, the authorities also provided blankets and much needed beanies.
Along with 10,000 plus others, we attended the ceremony at Anzac Cove, followed by the New Zealand one at Chunuk Bair.
The two poppies from our Probus Club were placed, one at Anzac Cove and the other at the New Zealand memorial.
Our day finished at 4pm and we departed the site on one of the 520 coaches hired for the occasion.
Being present at Gallipoli in 2015 was a very moving experience, and something we will never forget.
