Lord Howe Island cleans up
Tropical Cyclone Sandra came within 220 kilometres of Lord Howe Island last night, with wind gusts hitting the island at 150km per hour at the height of the storm. Read more.
Alan Leahy to surrender
A warrant was issued for Alan Leahy’s arrest a fortnight ago, after being accused of the murder of his wife and her best friend in 1991. Queensland coroner Michael Barnes found that Leahy should stand trial. He is expected to surrender himself today. ABC News has the full report.
Brothers found dead on rural property
Two men have been found dead in Victoria’s central west. They are believed to be brothers, both aged in their sixties. The men were found with gunshot wounds and police believe they were murdered. The Age has more.

Five-organ transplant recipient gives birth to a healthy baby
Five years ago, Fatema Al Ansari received a new liver, pancreas, stomach and small and large intestine. In February, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl. It is the first known case of a five-organ transplant patient giving birth. Read more.
Baghdad blasts kill 18
Eighteen people have died and at least 30 people have been wounded in the deadliest attack in Baghdad this month. Three bombs exploded near the foreign and culture ministries and communications ministry offices. At the same time, an unsuccessful assault on the justice ministry took place. Read more.
