CRONULLA PROBUS - GETTING WET!
10 Oct 2016
Living the ‘Active Retirees’ motto, Cronulla Men’s Probus have been exploring the upper reaches of the waterways of southern Sydney by kayak.
In a move to attract younger members, the Club in 2015 commenced ‘adventure activities’ with kayaking a regular event. Club President and Adventures Activities leader Gary Daniels says “we are not the fastest guys on the waterways, but we do enjoy getting out with nature and in the fresh air”.
There are risks involved for those thinking of kayaking: “we have learned the hard way, not to look for eagles’ nests up high behind you, or to try to steer kayaks by shifting your weight – with two members, including yours truly, taking untimely swims in cold water” advises Gary.
As for two person kayaking, Gary notes “it’s fair to say we have a lot of practice needed, we currently only demonstrate how to NOT paddle in a synchronised way; when we get past this we might challenge for Olympics positions...or maybe not”.
Cronulla Men’s Probus meets the morning of the third Monday each month and welcomes new members. Contact David Fletcher (VP and membership) on 0412 645 087 or [email protected]
