Honourary membership
26 Jun 2014
Recently the Sandown Probus Club awarded another Honorary membership since its formation in 1992.
The honorary membership was bestowed on Bill Cooney who was an active member.
Bill’s wife Lorraine was a foundation member of the club, and Bill was always there to support Lorraine and help with anything which needed to be done around the club.
Bill joined Sandown Probus, and started to get more involved, becoming editor of our monthly news letter The Sandowner, where he entertained with little anecdotes, jokes and information within the club.
Bill was also a photographer, and a computer teacher with U3A, Dandenong, so if anyone needed help with computers, Bill was very happy to help out.
Bill is also an active member of the community.
On the 20th anniversary of the Sandown Probus Club, Bill compiled a DVD of the various functions and outings with lots of photos and beautiful music.
It was a sentimental trip down memory lane, as it had present and past members, who are no longer with us.
The club felt that Bill couldn’t just leave the club, as Bill was such a valued member for all those years.
The club did not want to lose Bill, so asked him if he would accept the invitation to become an hononary member which he gladly accepted. President John Kerr, presented Bill with the club’s own Oscar award for a job well done.
Shirley Constantine, had great pleasure in presenting Bill with an honorary membership certificate, due to the fact of service and friendship which Bill had given over many years.
Shirley ended her tribute by presenting Bill with an honorary membership plaque.
