Morrinsville Probus 10th Birthday celebrations
18 Oct 2017
The Morrinsville Probus Club has turned 10 years old. It recently celebrated the birthday at the local Rotary clubrooms with speeches and reminiscing followed by lunch and cutting of the cake by Dulcie Wigglesworth and June Close. There were approx. 90 people present to celebrate.
In June2007 the Morrinsville rotary club decided there was a need for a Probus Club. The aim of Probus is to promote fellowship and extend friendships amongst professional and business people in the community.
Ten years on the club still has a healthy membership which meets at the Rotary club rooms each month.
The first committee members were Rex Withers as president, Nelson Tolerton as vice president, Robyn Eagles as secretary, Doreen Jack as treasurer, the rest of the committee consisted of Bob Cunningham, Bruce Jack, Sue Richardson and Heather Young.
Also appointed were Viv Robbins as a Historian and June Close as a Welfare Officer. The latter two Viv & June have continued their roles for ten years, a significant contribution to the club. Viv Robbins photograph albums were on display for the members to review.
When people were reminiscing at the celebrations many shared about the group travel to White Island, Taranaki Trip, Matakana and many more.
Carol De Hass said “it’s a great group for couples to belong to and we have many men & couples in the group. As the group requires little commitment other than monthly meetings, people really enjoy Probus.
