A day of dragons in Bendigo
26 Feb 2015
Several members of the Sandown Parks Probus Club went to Bendigo for a visit to the fascinating Golden Dragon museum, known as the 'Chinese Cultural Centre of Australia'.
Our guide, Leigh, really knew his subject well. The first Chinese dragon is 120 years old, while the youngest dragon, San Loong is 40 years old and also the oldest.
The head alone of the dragons weigh around 29 kilos, so as you can imagine how heavy it is for one man to carry.
In fact, five men take it in turns to carry it during the festivals. The workmanship that went into some of the displays is brilliant - the carriage made of jade was really something to look at !
