Cockatoo Rise War Veterans Retreat
03 Jul 2014
A group of members from Bairnsdale Probus Club recently visited Cockatoo Rise War Veterans Retreat.
Vietnam veteran and retreat owner, Greg Carter, showed them the facilities that visitors to the retreat can experience. The retreat is a free and voluntary facility provided to all war veterans and their partners. Of particular interest was the items in the retreat museum.
Greg presented the clothing that is worn by troops today and what was worn in other conflicts going back to the Second World War. Many were interested in the flak jacket worn by our troops in Afghanistan and how heavy it was.
After the tour, members played bocchi and golf on the retreat golf course.
