Two members celebrating their 100th Birthday!
26 Aug 2015
We have celebrated a very special event in D9670. Two members of the Warners Bay Ladies Probus Club have just celebrated their 100th birthdays. It must be the air up here! Anyway, I was wondering whether you could arrange for their story and photos could be included as an article in Active Retirees (Preferably) or in one of the Probus on-line sites. I have been gioven the following information about the ladies:
"The Warners Bay Ladies Probus Club was chartered on the 8th October 1987. Two members who joined in the first year of the Club's formation turned 100 years old this year.
Elva Nairn joined on 9th January 1988 and Marie Henery became a member on 1st March 1988. Elva celebrated her birthday on 1st May while Marie's was on 2nd May. Both ladies live by themselves in their own homes and care for their gardens and apart from having a lawn mowing service and a lady that carries out house cleaning tasks, they completely look after themselves.
Elva takes an active part in Legacy, War Widows and the View Club. She enjoys her Craft classes as well as attending Probus Club meetings each month. Elva also loves attending regular functions put on by the different Associations. She says that she doesn't have enough hours in the day to do all she would like to do.
Marie has had poetry and short stories published under her maiden name of Marie Walther. She has been a Bridge teacher for several ladies in the Probus Club and still plays Bridge. She loves cooking and made her own outfit for her 100th birthday party. Marie does crosswords and sudokus each morning to keep her brain active.
Warners Bay Ladies Probus Club held a Special Morning Tea in their honour at its May meeting to celebrate this amazing achievement. Their two birthday cakes were made by Life Member 85 year old Lenore Rutherford. She is also a foundation member and is still very active in her charity work."
The two photos I have attached depict the ladies with their birthday cakes and their cards and Certificates of Congratulations. In the birthday cake photo, Marie is in the white coat and Elva is in the red coat. They are reversed in the card and certificate photo.
