Come along for the ride

Come along for the ride with me, urged Coral Labbett, the newly elected President of the Probus Club of Ballarat Goldfields in Victoria.

During Coral’s induction, President of the Rotary Club of Ballarat East, John Olsen, said Goldfields had the reputation of being friendly, and was committed to generating interest amongst its members.

In her early years living in Creswick, Coral said she had faced many challenges and accepted responsibilities, working with local groups in helping to maintain a thriving community. She told members she believed her experiences and sense of humour would complement a year of friendship and fellowship.

Chartered in August 2001, this year has begun with a membership of 117, and a list of varied activities. These include tai chi, long trail walks, table tennis and ten pin bowling, which were introduced in the last year.

Members have enjoyed a busy year which included a week-long caravan trip to Echuca and an eight day cruise to New Zealand. There was the Regional Information Day in May and the club was represented at the Victorian Associations Annual Meeting in Mt. Gambier.

Speakers have included a Public Transport representative who spoke to us about transport card Myki (many questions followed), a local historian who had travelled to Anzac Cove, and the President of Sovereign Hill Museums Association.

A highlight of last year year was the Club’s Christmas Dinner, held for the first time at the Ballarat Special School, where guests were catered for by students.
