Renmark River ramble
08 Apr 2013
Thirty-six members of the Probus Club of Port Victor Combined travelled to Renmark recently for the club’s annual trip away staying at the Big 4 Renmark Riverfront Holiday Park.
Watts Holiday Parks Australia provided excellent facilities right on the banks of the River Murray.
The weather was changeable but three beautiful days were enjoyed before the cold set in. Areas of South Australia even experienced snow that week, so there really was no escaping the cold.
A cruise on the historic paddle steam PS Industry was the group’s first outing on Monday morning. Tuesday was a visit to the McCormick Centre for the Environment.
Lunch followed at the David Ruston Visitor Centre which includes a cafe, gift shop, classic car display and surrounded by 27 acres of rose gardens. While the men looked at cars the ladies enjoyed some retail therapy.
There was plenty of time for members to explore the Riverland and some visited Angove’s Cellar Door, Calperum Station, managed by Australian Landscape Trust and Banrock Station.
On Thursday, Paringa Bakery was popular for lunch, and after a short explanation session at Lock 5 some ventured to Headings Lookout for a raised view of the river and cliffs, and then onto some sampling at the Wilkadene Woolshed Brewery at Murtho.
Members always enjoy the happy hours at the end of the day and a meal together, whether in the camp kitchen or at a venue in town.
