Celebrating a great community activity
23 Jun 2014
The Probus Club of Ulladulla and Districts has been a great activity in the community for twenty years encouraging fellowship and friendship through its monthly meetings, various activities and major tours. The twentith anniversary luncheon was celebrated with 103 members and guests in attendance.
Past presidents L-R Jan Warburton, Fay Stephenson, Frank Barr, Harold Woodward, Colleen Barr, Margaret Reeves, Peter Hayman, Johanna Callaghan, Jim Roose with new President Shirley Vaughan.
The Dunn Lewis Centre is a credit to Gayle Dunn and her committiees, the venue looked supurb, the catering, hors d’oeuvres on arrival, the roast dinner and delightful desert was definitely a winner, and the wait staff was most obliging getting the meals out hot and quickly.
The special guest was Glad Armour, the founder of the club who now lives in Gerringong. Glad gave a short speech about how the club was formed, she advised that 102 people attended the meeting of interest to form a club, with 82 coming along to the first meeting held at the Surf Club on March 11, 1994. Although she is a member of the Gerringong and Geroa Clubs, Glad still refers to this club as ‘our club’.
Attending the twentieth anneversary was Marie (left) wife of first president Ron Bishop and Glad Armour the founder of the club.
Also invited were past presidents who no longer attend. The club was pleased to welcome Fay Stephenson and husband Jim. Representing Rotary, the governing arm of Probus, was Ulladulla President Brian Morrison, Ladies Probus was represented by member Salli Webster and Patti Ryan, and the president of Mollymook Combined Probus Bill Lampard was also present accompanied by his wife Sharon.
The cutting of the celebratory cake was the privilege of the six inaugural members who still regularly attend meetings. This was a particularly special occasion for Marie Bishop whose husband Ron was the first president of the club.
Inaugural members that are still members had the privilage of cutting the cake (L-R) Frank Barr, Jan Warburton, Johanna Callaghan, Marie Bishop, Margaret Watts and Harold Woodward.
Reaching the twenty-year mark can only be a testament to the members who continue to support activities and make up the committees so lets keep it going.
