Life membership at Richmond
09 May 2013
At the last meeting in May, President of the Probus Club of Richmond Alan Roberts proposed to members that Robin Cook be made a Life Member.
This was seconded by Maarten van Geldermalsen, who introduced Robin to Probus in 1992 with Mac Brownlie, and the motion was passed unanimously by the members.
Robin was inducted into the Probus Club of Richmond at the Waimea Town and Country Club in September 1992, when Bill Eggers was President. Robin had to wait a few months to join, as membership was capped at 120. Robin remembers his induction very well, as Bill Eggers made a blue and welcomed him by saying “Welcome to the Lion’s Club”, but hastily corrected himself.
Over the years Robin has held many positions within the club.
He was sport convener in 1994 and 1995 and main speaker organiser during 1996 and 1997. In 1998 Robin began his duties collecting the morning tea money and completing the attendance register, which he still does to this day.
At this time he also took on the duty of setting up the hall, especially when we were at the Rugby Club.
In 2009 Robin was elected Vice-President, became President in 2010 and Ex Officio-Immediate Past President last year. May he have many more enjoyable years with Probus. Congratulations Robin.
