25th Anniversary celebration

On the 5th of April 2024, there were 35 Members of the Kallangur Probus Club celebrating their 25th Anniversary. The anniversary was celebrated in the Murrumba Downs Tavern. The Kallangur Probus Club had the initial introduction meeting on the 22nd of January 1999, where 22 potential members came along to hear what Probus was all about. At that meeting there was sufficient interest shown so the Kallangur Probus Club was formed. It was voted on that they would allow members who had their applications in on the 26th of February meeting, to be classified as foundation members.

They started their Club with 35 foundation members of which sadly only three remain today. They are, Joy, Viv, and Barry. They were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pine Rivers, and Ian from this Club, did the honours of officially inducting the new members of their Club and investing their first president Harry with our Certificate of Accreditation, collar, jewel of office, gong and mallet. (Ian and his wife Rose are also foundation members of their club). Over the years the Club grown to having a waiting list, and now has a stable membership of 35.

Over the years they have had several meeting venues, starting on the 22nd of January 1999, at an RSL, now called North’s Leagues Club. They now meet at the Kallangur Bowls Club.

Once their club was formed and they were up and running, news filtered back to the committee that they were one of the most active clubs going, at least on the North side of Brisbane. They have even had awards for their newsletter “Kallangur Kapers,” which is still a great read today, largely thanks to their current newsletter editor, Beryl. They had two resident poets, both could quote poetry from memory; they even wrote some poetry for our club. Wallace wrote “Probus of Kallangur,” and Viv wrote “Absolutely Nothing.” Over the years, they have had the privilege of having many interesting guest speakers, a variety of outings and tours around our state, and many, many, many morning teas, and lunches.

As the celebration commenced, Barry, introduced Allen, the RLO for the Moreton Bay region and presented President Clyde with the anniversary certificate and spoke on the benefits of the Fun, Friendship and Fellowship through Probus, and expressed congratulations from Carwyn, the President of PAQ Queensland. The meal was served and followed by the Anniversary cutting of the cake by two of the three remaining foundation members, Joy and Barry. A great day was had by all. Congratulations from PAQ and PSPL.
