Boulcott Probus celebrate a 102nd birthday
04 Dec 2024
Boulcott Probus believe that they have the oldest active Probus member in New Zealand, if not the world.
In October, the Club celebrated the 102nd birthday of Club member Alan. A regular and active attendee at Club meetings, Alan only stopped driving himself to meetings when he turned 100.
Members were privileged to be present for his “Life & Times” talk which was about Alan’s interesting career in the field of education.
In 1940, he became a teacher and after time at various schools became a Principal. An interest in special needs children resulted in his appointment to the head office of the Department of Education which meant dealing with government departments and parliamentarians. Education for special education students underwent various changes during this time and Alan played an integral part of these changes.
The Club sang him happy birthday and President Tony presented him with a commemorative pen to mark this important occasion. The Club looks forward to celebrating more birthdays with good health and happiness.
