Stanthorpe and Noosa
06 Dec 2013
What a great opportunity for two Probus clubs to exchange fun, friendship and fellowship when the Noosa 2010 Combined Club left Noosa to ‘go west’ and explore the Granite Belt and the Darling Downs.
After Noosa 2010 President, David Muir, spoke to some of the members of the Stanthorpe Club telling them of our impending visit they arranged for their incoming President to meet with us at our first dining engagement at Patsy’s Café on McGregor to welcome our members to Stanthorpe.
The itinerary for the next day was to travel around the Stanthorpe area and so it was arranged that two of the local Stanthorpe members joined with us on our Coach to give us a personalised tour.
Our first stop was for beer tastings at the Granite Belt Brewery after which we did an extensive tour of some of the apple orchards which were just coming into bloom, another stop for sampling local cheeses, and then a stop at an apple packing shed where we were shown how they pack and grade the apples.
Lunch was had at a working apple orchard where we enjoyed more tastings of apple cider and of course apple pie.
More wine tasting followed after lunch and while we sipped we watched the kangaroos grazing in the paddock beside the huge dam.
As the sun slowly began to set in the west we made one last stop at the Bramble Patch for an icecream and to sample all things made from berries before we retired to our motel for a short rest before dining at an award winning Italian restaurant.
Thank you Doug Smith and Bob Johnson for your hospitality and Noosa looks forward to reciprocating if your club decides to visit us anytime in the future.
