Trail Blazer’s Walking Group

On Tuesday, December 18th the boys outnumbered the girls from the Probus Club of Tea Tree Gully for the first time!! Nine happy walkers met in the Old Spot Hotel car park at nine am to walk 5 kms ....at first crossing under the Main North Rd and then into the beautiful Carisbrooke Park following along the Little Para River.

Five keen men strode it out with four ladies for an hour and a half along the trail, covering many grassed areas with shady trees, BBQs, playgrounds, picnic facilities and several bridges over the river. Beautiful reserves with red gums (some very old), blue gums and Mallee Box trees gave a home to lots of bird life including kookaburras, and noisy corellas, while the flies were punished with Dean’s gum tree switch!

The park was named Carisbrooke Orangery when established in 1898 as a citrus orchard, while the original dwellers were the Kaunas people....... “Pari” was their word for water, which lead to the name Little Para River.

Coffee and cake was back at the Hotel after a fantastic and interesting morning. A great way to enjoy the last Trail Blazer’s get together for 2018.
